MULGIPUDER (traditional Estonian porridge)

Ingredients:

HERCULES Barley Flakes 80g HERCULES Barley Flakes

  • 80g HERCULES barley flakes
  • 600g potatoes
  • 100g bacon
  • 300g onion
  • 100ml milk
  • 40g butter
  • Salt to taste

Cooking method:

Step

 

  1. Scrub potatoes, cut them into large cubes, and put the potato cubes into a saucepan and cover with 1cm of water. Put it on the stove and cook until fork-tender.
  2. Cut the bacon into stripes, fry in a frying pan until lightly golden. Cut the onion into stripes or half rings. Add to the bacon and fry until the onion is fully cooked.
  3. When the potatoes are ready, add milk, HERCULES barley flakes, butter, stir and simmer under the lid for another 5 minutes. Remove the finished potato porridge from heat and mash it into a puree. Add salt to taste.
  4. To serve mulgipuder, transfer porridge to a bowl and top with bacon and onion.
